It seemed like a small miracle that Laura came into our lives. My son has struggled with writing his whole school life, and faced with an AP language exam that included timed writing on the horizon, he was ready to receive some help (but not from his mom!). Laura immediately established a great connection with my son, and they worked together on preparing for the exam. He always looked forward to their sessions together. When exam time came, he told me he felt confident. I had never heard the word "confident" and anything about writing in the same sentence from him before. It was astonishing! I was so grateful! When I suggested Laura could keep tutoring him as he worked on his college essays, he agreed immediately. I can already tell she is going to be a huge asset to my son in the college application process.
I had an incredible experience working with Laura; she provided insightful feedback and helped me shape my medical school personal statement into something I was truly proud of. Her attention to detail, encouragement, and deep understanding of the writing process made a huge difference in my writing. She was especially helpful in making my writing more concise and impactful, cutting out unnecessary words while keeping my voice intact. She also guided me in replacing passive language with strong action verbs, which made my personal statement more engaging and compelling.
Laura provided excellent academic tutoring as well, but I’m especially grateful to her for the insightful, thoughtful and accepting way she coached, mentored and cheered on my son. She still reaches out to see how he is doing and it’s wonderful to celebrate his successes with her. She genuinely cares.
Laura has a lot of experience working with bright kids who learn differently and/or are challenged with executive function issues. She also communicates well with parents and is a wealth of information about academic paths and resources. Highly recommend her, especially for teens and young adults.
Laura has connected with our rising high school junior like few others have in academia. Our child learns differently, and Laura's expertise has helped him overcome numerous obstacles, especially in writing. She has helped him raise his belief in himself, improved his executive functioning and his overall academics, and even reduced his loathing of homework. Seeing Laura work with him it is clearly evident how much she cares about his success. Laura is also an excellent communicator with parents, quick to respond to emails, and willing, when she can, to change her schedule to meet family needs. Any parent would be extremely fortunate to have Laura work with their child.
Laura put our daughter immediately at ease. She had been struggling with her English work, especially essay writing, and it had impacted her confidence. We can see how bright she is, but she could not. Over the course of their first year of working together, not only did her work get much better, but her confidence soared, which was such a relief to see. Laura also suggested a neuropsychological assessment, which revealed a series of learning differences that had never been detected before. This has allowed her to create much more effective learning strategies and to ask for meaningful accommodations at school. Together, all of this means she is entering high school feeling confident that she can thrive. We are so happy for her and grateful for Laura!
Even though my husband and I were willing to bend, twist and turn to be a support to my teenage son, we could not find an easy way to connect about his schoolwork. We are so thankful to Laura who spoke the same language as our son, and in one semester he went from all things up in the air to structure with his calendaring and responsibilities. We highly recommend Laura as a coach.
Writing expectations for our first-year high school student were a big step up from what she was used to in middle school. She got behind and didn't ask for help until things were at a crisis point. Laura was amazing at helping her get organized and on task to get the work done. She did this while keeping our daughter engaged and interested and without escalating any stress about the looming deadlines. Laura is truly gifted at working with kids with learning differences. And I'd recommend her to anyone whose kids are feeling stuck.
